Ashes or Torches? Which are you?

A glimmer of light

Bright for a moment

Here and gone

It's light, now a memory

Once seen, now forever lost

Ashes, ashes

They fade

Ashes, ashes

It's light, but a spark

Ashes or Torches? Think about each one. Ashes are lit for a moment and then fade out. Their light never lasts. We should not desire to be ashes for Christ. Desire to be a torch, a flame, a fire, etc. Torches are lit for a long time, not only that, but they also ignite others torches, while keeping it's own light. Keep your light and share it. Ashes, their light soars for a moment, then fades. Take your torch and pass that light to others. Ashes fade into the darkness. The darkness, wind, storms, overtake them. Let God keep your light burning.

You, Lord, keep my lamp burning;

my God turns my darkness into light. Psalm 18:28

He is the One who keeps our light going. He makes what once was dark and turns it to light. Whatever your story is, He will use it for good. He uses our darkness and transforms us to be torches for Him. Lamps that never burn out. We don't want to fade or be overcome by darkness, though on our own that's what would happen. We need to lean into God and let Him ignite and fan His flame He's given us to have and share. Let us be like a flame in a forest, touching each blade of grass, each tree it touches, sharing the flame. We need to have a firm foundation so we don't burn out. When things get hard we need to be able to withstand the storm. Not burn out the second we enter darkness, leave the fire that sent us, or the second a breeze blows by. We need to be ready to stand the storm, fan the flame, and help others keep their flame burning. We can't ignite others, God does that part. God might use us to grow the flame, but He still ultimately does it. What will you be, an ash or a fire, a torch, a flame? Will you blow out by the next breeze or will you grow from it? Will you help others grow, share your flame, or burn out so soon, you're incapable of helping others? Will you help make ashes or other fires? You can't make a fire from a burnt out ash. Figure out if you're an ash first, then if you're not, GO FURTHER THE FIRE. THE LIGHT. THE FLAME. GOD'S FIRE. Don't hold back from being a wildfire for God, furthering His Kingdom. Making disciples, that are not flakes, but flames.
