You plan, schedule, stress about all the things of the new year. You fill calendars and pack your days. But you have no idea what's coming. God's plan will prosper, despite your wants. His will, His way will prevail, despite your desires. Your plan isn't His. Your plans will fail. They'll render incomplete. And you'll be disappointed. But know this, His way is best, and His plan is sure. Focus on Him and this year, even the trails and disappointments, you'll see will be worth it. When your plan fails, don't sit in the disappointment, but know there is a greater plan in place. A plan that is best, despite what you think. A plan that will prevail despite "your truth." Again, His way is best and His plan is sure. You'll see that everything that happens in your life is already accounted for and is part of His plan. This will be HIS year. His year to grow, change, ignite, fan, expand, and continue His plan.

When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.”

...So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.” Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?" God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:4, 10-14

This is one of my favorite sections of the Bible. I notice several things when I read this chapter.

  1. God calls Moses and he comes. He says, "Here I am." I read this as such a humble answer. I see it as a surrender. I see it as a "Here I am, do what you want with me."

  2. Moses doubts himself

  3. As Moses doubts himself, God reminds Him to not look at himself, but look at God.

  4. God doesn't tell Moses all the things about Moses. He says "I will be with you..." "Tell them 'I am has sent me to you.'"

I love every part of this. But especially the fact that God doesn't praise Moses, but God says, look at me. Not in a prideful way or in a cocky way. But in a comforting way. In a, "hey, I'll be with you. Let me be enough for you. Just trust me. I have called you, I will work through you." He wanted Moses to trust Him, not to trust Moses' capabilities, but God's capabilities. I don't know what God is calling you to this year. But He does. Whatever comes this year, step into it boldly. Not because of what you can do, but because of what He can do and who He is. Stop looking at yourself, because if you continue to do that, I'm telling you. You'll only be disappointed, stressed, frustrated, and only see incapable. When you focus on Him, you see His power, you'll be humbled, at peace, and see CAPABLE, you'll see all the doors that are open, all the things He's calling you to. Again, not because of yourself, but because of Him. Stop looking at your inabilities and start letting Him use you for what He's planned to. Moses continues to question God about choosing Moses to go.

“Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” Exodus 4:10

God used someone with a speech impediment, a murderer, a measly shepherd, a demon possessed man (Mark 5), betrayers, tax collectors, etc.

All this to say when we see INCAPABLE God sees CAPABLE. Not because of who we are, but because of who He is in us. He makes us capable. He sees potential. He uses the weak. He uses the broken. Not for their ego, pride, or glory. But for HIS glory. Stop trying to fit God in this box of limitations, because you'll see that He will break that box... Every. Time. Your year? God's year. God's year to shape you and mold you. Grow you and use you. Work in and through you. Break boxes of limitations and leave us amazed at all He does. Destroy the word incapable and replace it with capable. Turn our eyes off of us and onto Him. Use us to glorify Him and humble ourselves. His year to break boundaries and work in ways we could never imagine. I'll be honest, there are many thing I find myself saying "I can't do that. How am I supposed to do that?" But when I stop using I and use His name, peace enters, doubt leaves, and I see possibility. His year. God can do it. How is God supposed to do it? God will.
