Needed Restoration

God restores. As I thought about this attribute of God, I wondered. I wondered about the things He doesn't restore. I realized He restores what we need. He doesn't always restore what we want and He doesn't always leave the things broken that we want to stay broken. What He restores, needs to be restored, and what He leaves broken, needs to stay that way-possibly to restore something else. His timing and His plan is always greater and that includes the things He restores. But the question still remains, why does God still leave something broken? Here's what I know, that friendship that failed, that job that didn't work out, that relationship that ended. He leaves some things broken so that He can restore you. So He still restores, it just might not be in the way we wanted, or in the most obvious way. We need to trust His plan. He will restore, but we need to trust how and when He'll restore. Sometimes He won't restore that friendship, that job, that relationship, that situation, because He knows you need restoration. He has your best interests in mind. He knows sometimes the best thing He can do for you is not restore your situation, but restore you.
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. -1 Peter 5:10
But God doesn't just decide to either restore or not. He can also choose to wait to restore. So not only is His plan important to heed to, but His timing as well. Sometimes suffering comes first so that He can shape you in the best way. Restoration is not just for situations, it's for you too. God restores what we need, not always what we want. And we need to trust that His plan is best, including the situations He decides to restore and the moments He decides to restore us, maybe instead of the situation.
