Lights and ornaments. Trees and snow. Stockings and presents. I think we can all agree that it's not always easy to remember the reason for the season. We get so caught up in the glitter of the lights, gifts that flood the tree, and all the food that will keep you stuffed for days. But I encourage and remind you to remember. Remember the Light that came, bringing good news.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified
Luke 2:8-9
Remember the JOY that was brought to the world so long ago. Remember the reason we can still have joy today.
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
Luke 2:10-11
Remember the greatest gift of all.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Luke 2:11-14
Remember the selflessness, the servant heart that was brought to and for us.
While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them (Luke 2: 6-7)... So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.(Luke 2:16).
He was brought low from the beginning. He was born in something similar to a barn, because there was no room for him in the inn. He lay in a manger, not a bed. The King in a manger, the servants in beds. The Most Holy one brought low. Not for Himself, but for us. The Savior, a servant.
I know Christmas is exciting. But as it's coming up, don't forget to remember. Remember the Gift that was undeserved. The joy that is spread. The Light that shines for all to see. The Savior, who became a servant, not for Him, but for us. The Child, who was born to die for us. The Son, who would walk on water, heal the sick, perform miracles, and save God's children. Please remember. The love that was extended. The Gift that was given. The selfless act that was performed. Remember Him.
