We walk around having our desires at the top of importance. But what if they aren't? What if at times they're actually at our worst interest, instead of our best?
They said to him, "You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have." But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do."
1 Samuel 8:6-9
Here, the Israelites begged for a king, but God warned them that it will end badly, that they don't need one, especially because they already have one, Himself. Yet despite the warnings, they still believe they know what is best for them. Even after their God saved them several times, provided for them, protected them, showed them His faithfulness, yet still they doubted His wisdom and faithfulness. Just because that was years and years ago, doesn't mean that it doesn't apply to us, This is still what we fall into today. Thinking we know best and we don't even stop to consider that maybe, just maybe, the God who created you knows your most inner parts, after all, He put it all together, the painter knows the painting better than the painting knows itself. We go around sitting at closed doors hoping that they'll open again, and maybe they will, but right now they're closed. When we focus on what's closed to us in the moment, we miss the open doors where God is waiting for us. Focusing on what isn't takes away from the awe, excitement, and opportunities of what is. We lose sight of God when we focus on the doors He already closed. We sit, twisting the doorknob every which way, just trying to get back in, but it won't open, it's time to let go of the past, and be ready for what lies ahead. The longer you sit, the more you miss.
Open or closed I guess I'll never know. I just take your Hand and follow where you go. I hold tightly to the door, twisting the knob every which way, hoping it'll give a scream, saying I'm open. But no matter how hard I try, it stays tightly shut, so I sit at the entrance. Waiting. Hoping. Maybe it'll finally unlock. But no it just stays shut.
Remember to take His Hand and let Him close and open the doors in His perfect timing.
