What is Truth?

What is Truth?

This is a question that arose last year in my class. We discussed it, tossed ideas around, and destroyed other false ideas.

But the question still wanders in my head from time to time and it has been a very present question recently, not out of not actually knowing what truth is, but rather out of curiosity, and wondering how I would define truth.

Is it anything the internet says?

Your feelings?

Your opinions?

I mean how do we really know what true truth is?

Even things people call “facts” can actually only be a matter of opinion.

Who determined truth?

How does everyone know there is truth?

There’s simple truth…

Like the sky is blue

Grass is green

But even then, how do we really know?

Which is why the internet and news stations have all of these stories they place right in front of you and make you believe they gave you all the information

Because to the world, truth is what you can see and what you experience.

Here’s what I know,

Truth is to be sought

Truth is from God

Jesus is truth

And not all truth is revealed to/known by us

Some people hide truth, others omit it, and some avoid it

There has to be Someone who knows all truth in order for us to know truth and know it exists. How would we all know truth existed if there wasn’t anyone or anything to tell or show us truth? And the Person who gives us truth and who determines what’s true and what’s false needs to be all-knowing. Because if they are not all-knowing, how will we know they are telling the truth? And the Person who us all-knowing and is truth needs to be outside of time. Because if they weren’t outside of time, how would they be able to give everyone the knowledge that truth exists? And how would there be truth if Someone didn’t go ahead of everyone and already determine what’s true and what’s not before everyone else got there? Truth doesn’t magically appear in a moment. It may be realized in a moment, but it was already true before you even considered its validity. If you were to argue if the sky really was blue on a nice sunny day. Before you even thought about arguing that topic, the truth was already there, the sky is blue. Truth is outside of time, which also means the One who created truth and gives truth needs to be as well.

And while most argue an existentialist point of view that everyone has their own truth, I will argue that's false. There is not your truth and my truth, truth is truth. If someone says the sky is blue, and another says the sky is orange, well, only one is right. Unless of course the sun is setting and the sky actually is blue and orange, but behind the orange, the sky is still blue. It's just the sun making it orange. I also believe that God reveals truth to those who seek it and to those who are His. The Bible, the Word of God, is Truth, not all believe that but just because someone doesn't believe the truth, doesn't affect the reality that it is true, people's opinions do not affect the true validity.

What's truth to you? Is it anything any sort of media puts in front of you?

Where are you finding your truth today? The Word of God or the world of gods? Falsity is a trap that the enemy will use to distract and pull you away from the truth. The devil is good at making what's false look so good, that many consider it truth. Sometimes the lies deceive us as truth and what a mess it looks like when we find ourselves trapped, entangled, and captured by the lies. We need to be aware and really dig into the Word, so we know what truth is, and so we aren't easily captured and captivated by the enemies lies. The devil is really trying, especially with so many opinions, and facts floating around. Again, truth is sought, it won't just pop out of nowhere to you all the time, you need to seek truth. The enemy masks the lies, so they're disguised as a truth.
